Alexandria, Virginia — The Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services (GSH) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Michelle Krocker has been named Interim Executive Director of GSH. Ms. Krocker succeeds David Levine, who was recently named as the new Executive Director for Mountainlands Community Housing Trust based in Park City, Utah. As the principal affordable housing developer east of Salt Lake City, Mountainlands pursues its housing mission in Park City and two nearby Utah counties.

The GSH Board of Directors and staff look forward to working with Ms. Krocker during this time of transition to new leadership of the organization. Recognized as a foremost expert in affordable housing in the region, she will be a strong advocate for GSH and its mission. In her new role, she will advance the critical work of the organization with our partner agencies, local businesses, and community members to foster the mission of GSH as it looks towards the future.

“The Board of Directors is pleased that Ms. Krocker will be joining GSH as our Interim Executive Director,” said Willie Tate, Good Shepherd Housing Board of Directors Chairman. “She is a strong leader who will support the objectives of our strategic plan and provide continuity during this period of transition to new leadership.”
Ms. Krocker was the founder and Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) and led that organization for 18 years before stepping down in December 2022. NVAHA is a multi-jurisdictional advocacy coalition that works at the intersection of housing research, advocacy and public policies for systems change.

Ms. Krocker has served on multiple citizen advisory boards. She was a member of the Tysons Land Use Task Force (2005-2010), charged with planning the redevelopment of 1700 acres of Tysons and Chair of its Affordable Housing Subcommittee. She also served on the Housing Advisory Board to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for five years, the Fairfax County Affordable Housing Advisory Council for eight years, and the Greater Washington Community Development Council for Truist.

Currently, Ms. Krocker is a Commissioner on the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, a member of the Alexandria Housing Affordability Committee, and Vice-Chair for Housing Forward Virginia, a statewide housing education and policy organization.

In 2015, Ms. Krocker was awarded the inaugural “Game Changer Award” by the Virginia Housing Alliance for her work exemplifying “significant and innovative impact on the affordable housing industry.” In 2022, the Alliance for Housing Solutions gave her the Ellen Bozman award for “significantly advanced efforts to increase the supply of and/or to improve the quality of affordable housing in Arlington through leadership, innovation, and effectiveness over time.”

“I’m excited to be joining GSH at this time,” said Ms. Krocker. “The organization has hit a number of significant milestones in the past year under Mr. Levine’s leadership and I look forward to working with the Board and the staff as the organization continues to grow.”

With the appointment of Ms. Krocker as Interim Executive Director, GSH continues to move forward in its search process to select a new permanent Executive Director.
