GSH Supporters Help 134 Schoolchildren

by | Aug 23, 2017

Thanks to our generous community, our supporters provided 134 backpacks and school supplies for local schoolchildren! This could not have been done without all of you.

Thank you to our community supporters who hosted a school supply collection site – Hollin Hall Curves, Hollin Hall Senior Center, Good Shepherd Catholic Church (Virginia), and Mount Vernon At Home to benefit GSH’s children with new backpacks and school supplies.

Thank you to the enthusiastic volunteers from the Junior League of Northern Virginia, who for a second year in a row, came into our offices on a Saturday and helped put together all the school supply bags for our clients. Every school child on our list receives the school supplies that are specifically on their list, whether it is specialty markers and “artisan colored pencils” or a pocket dictionary. Our Children’s Resources Program Coordinator, Betsy Damitz, makes sure that each kid goes off to school with just what they need…and to top it off, they get to pick out the backpack they want, whether it’s Dory or Spiderman or a cool L.L. Bean blue backpack!

I also want to acknowledge our appreciation for our IT consultant, Peter Caggiano, who donated a refurbished laptop for one of our client’s children to take back with her to college!
