Celebrating Gerry Hyland
At our annual Board-Community Leadership Council Mixer, Good Shepherd Housing recognized former Mount Vernon Supervisor Gerry Hyland for his many years of service to our community and his support of affordable housing.
Supervisor Hyland retired from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2015, having served the Mount Vernon District for 28 years. A big supporter of local non-profits, he was instrumental in supporting the need for affordable housing in our community and keeping the North Hill project alive.
At the mixer, Supervisor Hyland spoke a little about the history of the North Hill project, which originally had 500 mobile homes on the property. When the County purchased the property, the intent was always to redevelop the land to include affordable housing units to help with the displaced residents from the mobile home community. Today, the project is moving forward and looks to add 278 affordable units to the local community, in mixed income development that will also have market rate units available. The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation has more on the project here.
