A Health Crisis and a Near Eviction
by Patricia Lopez, Emergency Services Coordinator
Karen came to Good Shepherd Housing this month with a difficult story.
She had fallen ill in October with kidney stones and she was required to remain hospitalized for a week. To make matters worse, once she returned home, she needed to stay on bed rest for an additional week. As a result, she missed a total of two weeks of work without pay and could not pay her rent in full.
We partnered with Good Shepherd Catholic Church and contributed a total of $650.00 towards her rental arrears, and were able to prevent eviction. She not only recovered from her illness and returned to work, but she was able to breathe a little more comfortably knowing she was able to stay in her housing, despite the setback.
